“As I waited at the light to turn, I was approached by a man holding a sign asking me to donate money. Then I walked into the grocery store and noticed some children outside asking me to purchase some cookies from them. By the time I left the store, I was asked to sign up for a credit card and also donate to a charity.” I felt like I left to grab a $20 item and spent an additional $20 in donations. I didn’t feel so bad for the giving, as much as, I did the lack of care for me as the customer.
Here I am only coming to buy this one item that I budgeted for, planned out, did all the research and knew I was making a good buy. I had time to think and rationalize my purchase. Then, I was approached and asked to give, give, and give some more. How we brand and market ourselves is so important with the advancement of social media. Do you always ask others to do something for you first? Or, do you offer them something and ask how you can help them first. Several months ago I decided I wanted to pursue a different side of the Internet — it turned out to be “a whole new world”.
I have had the hardest time trying to “niche” down, trying to not “niche” too much and just be myself. I swear it is information overload and crazy to see just how much information is out there.
I read somewhere that we are exposed to over 3000 marketing messages a day.
That should make you think twice about how you are sending your message aka what and how you are telling your stories, post, blog.
What voice is your post portraying? Who are you talking to on the other side of that computer screen? Continue reading Ideas for how to find your “perfect” voice as a blogger
I swear if I read another article on “Procrastination…”
You ever notice when you buy a new car all of the sudden everyone else seems to have purchased the same new whip? What about when you are going through a difficult time and every song on the radio seems to scream your name?
I have this problem with reading. I become obsessed with whatever it is I am into i.e. marketing, writing better, how to make my content stand out, the next blog post idea or place I am about to travel. I begin to see everything in tunnel vision. Continue reading Tomorrow is NO Guarantee: The Benefits of Today
Everyone has been asking me what exactly do you do? — I never have a definitive answer and it always makes me feel awkward when people ask.
I use to reply, “I am in Finance and Manage Funds for Institutions,” People use to be so impressed with my all of my skills or that I could tie an expensive college name accrediting them too. Not to mention, I worked at some investment firms worth name dropping.
Couple all that with the fact I was a girl making more money than most individuals who were getting ready to retire normally only achieved after a lifetime of struggles.
Now, my response is usually a little something like, “Oh I’m an entrepreneur, and hummmm…. well I BLOG that’s what I do I read and BLOG.” Pretty much a conversation ender. No one cares and no one is impressed, crickets chirp. Continue reading Retired by 30: Here’s how to achieve the New Rich — One Beautician’s Wigs to Wall Street Success Story
Do you ever stop to think? I know some people who’s entire life is absorbed with sports, music, social media, their cell phone, or some other mindless activity.
I had a conversation with someone the other day who I asked, “do you not ever think.” They replied, “no not really, maybe in the shower.” — the same person who also told me they want to get rid of their phone all together or leave it behind when they go on trips. Yet, they walk around day in and day out consumed by what is going on with their phone.
Recently, I decided to sell my house and didn’t really think too much about where I was going to live. I try to take things one step at a time.
But, every person I know has asked me where are you going to live? Why are you not going to move in with your boyfriend? When are you getting married?
I mean don’t you think I will tell you when I decide to do that? Don’t you think I have thought about the fact I am going to need to find a new home? Don’t you think I want to know when I’m getting married too?!?
Why is it such a big deal I decide not to share so many personal details (non — life changing details) about my day to day life? Continue reading Does social media desensitize your judgement?
Do you allow others to tell you the truth or train them to be better liars?
Fact: If you want better relationships your reactions must change.
Everyone reacts differently in a given situation because of what’s inside their heart. Different people have different reactions because of the different baggage, relationships, or backgrounds that they have experienced.
Maybe you don’t always react the right way or do the right thing. But, if you feel uneasy then it’s the perfect opportunity to change. Continue reading Start FLAUNTING your FREEDOM to impact others in a “HUGE” way
